For their converted Tuscan railway station, these clients wanted a large outside entertaining with an impressive swimming pool as the focus.

Contemporary materials were used to create a 12m pool, expansive decked area for lounging by the pool, external shower and surrounding patio to contrast stunningly with the 19th century backdrop. These are set off spectacularly at night time with discreet lighting.

A key detail are the roman steps. They provide a safe and convenient way to get in and out of pool. However, we decided to oversize them so they can also provide seating in the pool – an ideal way to stay fresh during the heat of the Tuscan summer.
